A group of thieves reportedly stole equipment worth Rs300,000 from Peshawar’s Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) University Road station.
The News reported that BRT’s Project Manager Islam Gul told police officials that thieves stole equipment from an elevator at a BRT station near Board Colony.
The official that said the equipment was worth Rs300,000 and only relevant expert could remove and install it. The theft complaint has been registered in Peshawar police station.
On Monday, it was reported that the construction firm that’s been building the much-delayed BRT has been awarded three more projects in Islamabad over ‘lowest bids’.
The News reported that Maqbool Associates-Calsons was awarded the projects, after which it will construct Rawal Dam interchange, expand the Korang Bridge as well as the PWD Underpass at a cost of Rs 1.2 billion, Rs 628.5 million, and Rs 420 million, respectively.
The report revealed that Calsons is the same company, which according to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), was rejected by Shehbaz Sharif administration to build the Ashiana Iqbal Housing Scheme. The former chief minister of Punjab was accused of rejecting the company to award the contract to another ‘favorable’ construction company.
In May this year, Prime Minister Imran Khan had ordered the completion of BRT project without further delay. He had issued the remarks after he was given a briefing by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government regarding the project.
