The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has sought a response from the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Pakistan Navy's chief Admiral Zafar Mehmood Abbasi over the illegal construction of a club in the federal capital.
According to a tweet shared by journalist Mubashir Zaidi, the naval chief and CDA were asked to file responses in the high court over construction in the 'environmentally sensitive' area of the city. It asked CDA to explain that under what law the permission was granted and why the public was being denied access to a public spot.
It further directed the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to explain if the prerequisites for construction under the Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency Act, 1997 were met. In case, these requirement were fulfilled, what action has been taken so far, added the high court.
It also asked the naval chief to file a reply in the case.
Earlier this week, CDA issued a notice to the Pakistan Navy Sailing Club, asking it to halt its illegal construction. It has reported that the club near Lake View Park was inaugurated on July 10.
In a notification on July 13, CDA said that the club was told to halt construction on September 17, 2019 and February 24, 2020.
“It has once again come to notice that illegal construction has resumed and the club has been made functional. This is a sheer violation of the CDA laws and it needs to be halted immediately," it had said.
