As many as 16 Tableeghi Jamaat members with the help of locals have escaped from a quarantine centre set up in Karachi to facilitate the suspected and confirmed coronavirus patients.
All the escapees belong to Mohmand Agency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and were kept in quarantine on Aripl 1. Eight of them were quarantined at a mosque in Saeedabad, with others were placed in a nearby house.
A case has been registered against three persons, Rafique Mallah, Manzoor Ilahi Rajput and Muhammad Ayub Pathan, who took the responsibility of keeping a watch on and looking after the escapees. All three of them have been arrested, but the court granted them bail on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Hyderabad Naeem Shaikh has suspended New Saeedabad Police Station (SHO) Mukhtiar Dero for the ‘criminal’ negligence. According to the district administration officials, the K-P government has been contacted and provided the details of the escapees.
Last week, A truck carrying 19 members of Tableeghi Jamaat sitting next to each other was caught by the police on Islamabad Highway toll plaza. The jamaat members had come from Multan. Police intercepted their vehicle and stopped them from travelling any further.
To date, hundreds of Tableeghi Jamaat members have tested positive for the deadly virus after attending the Raiwind Ijtema in Lahore.
