Renowned socialist leader and co-founder of Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Dr Mubashir passed away in Lahore on Saturday morning. The deceased was 99-years-old.
His funeral will be held at Bhatta Chowk, Lahore at 5:30 PM on Saturday.
Dr Mubashir Hassan was a right hand man and confidant of former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. He also served as the Finance Minister of Pakistan during Bhutto's government in 1971.
He also authored the PPP's first manifesto soon after its formation. He was instrumental in mobilising for the party in the then West Pakistan (now Bangladesh). In 1971, during his ministership, he also played a role in establishing the Kahuta Research Laboratories.
In the subsequent years, Dr. Hasan parted ways with the PPP after developing some differences with Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and joined the PPP-Shaheed Bhutto from Ghinwa Bhutto.
Mubashir Hassan was a strong proponent of democracy and human rights in Pakistan. He was one of the founding members of Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) and the Pakistan-India People’s Forum for Peace and Democracy. Hassan had authored 10 books.
