The legal fraternity on Friday staged a sit-in in front of the Supreme Court building to protest the ongoing hearing of the references against Supreme Court Justice Qazi Faez Isa.
The protest included a large number of lawyers from the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) and other bodies. They blocked the main entrance of the SC building.
The five-member Supreme Judicial Council SJC, hearing the reference include Chief Justice of Pakistan Asif Saeed Khosa, Justice Gulzar Ahmed, Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed, Sindh High Court Chief Justice Ahmed Ali M. Shaikh and Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Waqar Ahmed Seth.
The reference was filed against Justices Isa for allegedly possessing properties in the United Kingdom. Attorney General Anwar Mansoor, who is prosecuting the case at the SJC request, tried to convince the council to begin formal proceedings in the matter.
As he left, Mansoor didn't reply to the questions posed by journalists after the references was heard The SJC was expected to decide the maintainability of the reference today (Friday).
