Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Major General Babar Iftikhar has said that the Pakistan Army was 'using' former Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan spokesperson Ehsanullah Ehsan to 'gain information' against the terror outfits.
However, Gen Iftikhar rejected the claims made by Ehsan in an audiotape soon after he escaped the custody.
Ehsanullah Ehsan had fled from the safe house on January 11, where he was being kept for almost three years.
The News had quoted Ehsanullah Ehsan as saying that he had arrived in Turkey along with his family. He had refused to comment on how he managed to escape from the custody of the Pakistani authorities and move to another country.
“I can’t tell you more but I can tell you that I am in Turkey at the moment along with my wife, son and daughter. Don’t ask me how I reached here as I can’t tell you right now,” the report quoted him.
In a subsequent interview, he had claimed that the Pakistan Taliban still had the capability of carrying out attacks despite facing losses in the anti-terror operations in the country. In an interview with Al Jazeera, Ehsan had said that the Pakistani Taliban’s cell remain active in various cities of the country.
