Opposition parties Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) staged a protest during the budget session at the joint session of the parliament.
As soon as the announcement of the budget started the parliamentarians started to protest against what they termed as the government's abuse of power, terming the budget 'anti-poor'. They held placards that carried messages calling out the government like, 'sugar thieves', 'we don't want anti-poor budget', 'revive steel mills' and asking a decrease in the price of flour. Many banner protested against inflation in the country.
The minister was heckled and protesters kept chanting 'Ali baba, chaalis chor' Ali baba and forty thieves, referring to Prime Minister Imran Khan and his party members for the theft of the nation's resources.
The budget for the year 2020-2021 is being considered a formality between the main opposition parties and the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI). PPP and PML-N have agreed not to vote on cutting motions and not pointing the quorum out till the budget is fully announced by June 30.
