A young man associated with a religious party was arrested in Lahore on Friday for vandalising the statue of Sikh ruler Maharaja Ranjit Singh, placed near the Shahi Qilla.
The man identified as Zaheer had damaged an arm of the statue when he was caught by the police.
Confessing to his act, the man said that he did so because Ranjit Sindh had committed various crimes against Muslims during his reign.
A case has been registered against the accused and police are looking into the matter for further investigation.
