The Ministry of Interior has approved the deployment of Pakistan Rangers (Punjab) in Lahore for the maintenance of law and order in light of the attack by lawyers on the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC).
The Punjab home department requested the deployment of paramilitary troops in the city after a violent attack by lawyers, who stormed the hospital, damaged equipment, and attacked doctors and patients.
According to the notification, the paramilitary troops would be deployed outside the governor’s residence, the Punjab assembly, Mall Road, civil secretariat, Aiwan-e-Adal, the Supreme Court’s Lahore Registry, Lahore High Court and Punjab Institute of Cardiology.
Following yesterday's violence at PIC, the hospital's Grand Health Alliance Chairman Dr Muhammad Irfan has said that lawyers attacked the hospital to gain support for the upcoming bar elections.
