In the recent press briefing in Islamabad, special assistant on health Dr Zafar Mirza maintained that out of the total confirmed corona cases, 5,038 in Pakistan, half were the result of local transmission.
In the last 24 hours alone, over 250 new cases have surfaced with Sindh leading with 104 followed by Punjab with 89 and KPK with 45 and Baluchistan with 8 new registered cases. 6 cases have been reported in Islamabad while 1 in AJ&K.
Out of 1, 440 currently hospitalized, 37 are in critical condition meaning that they are on ventilators.
In the last 24 hours, 14 deaths have been reported. The fatality rate has increased to 1.7% in Pakistan. It is worth noted that by the end of March, the corona death rate was around 0.7%. The Global fatality rate, as of today, is 6.1%.
Out of the 17,332 quarantined across Pakistan, 2,684 - about 18% - have tested positive for coronavirus, told the SAPM Zafar Mirza.
He concluded by stressing on the people to take precautionary measures seriously which have been repeatedly advertised through media.
