Tensions have arisen between Sindh police and the Counter Terrorism Department Multan (CTD) following the arrest of six corporals of CTD Multan by the former. The arrests were made after the killing of two high-profile terrorists of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi and Al-Qaeda (Umar Kundi Group).
Sukkur police registered an FIR which nominated the CTD Multan personnel for murder, taking a plea that they had not been informed by the personnel of CTD Multan while they were chasing the alleged terrorists.
A news report in Dawn cited a senior police officer as saying that the CTD team chased the terrorists from Rahim Yar Khan till Pannu Aqil. The police asked the terrorists to surrender, who started firing instead. During the armed encounter, two terrorists were killed.
Sukkur police rushed to the spot after hearing gunshots. The CTD personnel identified themselves but were subsequently arrested for carrying out the encounter without intimating the police of the area.
