Social media posts that have been spreading misinformation and hatred about polio vaccination have been taken down, Dawn News reports.
A large number of Facebook posts, YouTube videos and tweets that have been spreading "hatred and misinformation" about polio vaccination have been removed, Prime Minister's Focal Person on Polio Eradication Babar bin Atta said on Friday.
Google has also warned people that were spreading lies about the polio vaccine on YouTube, he added. After a video conference with Facebook officials the government intends to take quick legal action against those responsible for spreading misinformation on the social media site, he said.
Earlier, Babar had sent a letter to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) regarding the anti-vaccination social media posts. On Thursday, PTA informed the focal person on polio eradication that as of May 9, a total number of 174 links have been blocked on various social media sites.
