Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has claimed that the Azadi March in Islamabad had ended after the assurance that Prime Minister Imran Khan would immediately step down and new elections would be held three months after his resignation.
According to a report published in DAWN, JUI-F chief before making the above-mentioned claim said, “I urge Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi to disclose the secret he is carrying as amanat.” However, Maulana didn’t disclose the name of the personality who gave him the word that PM Imran Khan would resign and fresh polls would be held.
“The benefit expected from the Azadi March could not be achieved, because the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) didn’t extend their support to the cause,” the JUI-F chief added.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman further said that the government has lost the trust of ‘some forces’ after the issue of army chief’s extension went to the courts and National Assembly (NA).
The JUI-F had staged 13-day sit-in in Islamabad that came to an unexpected end as the party chief announced going for ‘Plan B’, blocking various major roads across the country.
Earlier, while addressing the participants of Azadi March, Maulana had vowed to move to D-chowk along with the protesters and not to leave without PM Imran’s resignation.
