NAB Acquits Ex-Power Secretary After He Returns Rs2Billion Bribe Money
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Thursday acquitted former Water and Power Secretary Shahid Rafi after he returned Rs2 billion bribe money to the corruption watchdog.

According to Times of Islamabad, Rafi expressed his willingness to return the money of bribe in the rental power case. He also confessed to taking kickbacks.

Shahid Rafi had earlier agreed to be an approver for the NAB. Another accused in the case Laeeq Ahmed confessed to having accepted a Rs1 million bribe in rental power case. NAB said that suspect Laeeq received the money from Babar Zulqarnain through his daughter.

On Wednesday, the accountability court extended the physical remand of Cannock Global Enterprises Limited Director Laeeq Ahmed in rental power case till May 13. The remand was extended because another off-shore company had emerged in his name.

NAB prosecutor told the court that transactions have also been made in the accounts of his relatives which have yet to be investigated. Laeeq, however, claimed that the second company was established in place of the first one. He said that since the first one was closed down.

The court allowed the accused to meet his family members and then extended his remand period.
