Pakistan's military spokesperson has stated that the Army should not be dragged into politics. Speaking at a press conference, the Director-General of Inter Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Maj Gen Babar Iftikhar dismissed talk of any backdoor channels with opposition political forces.
The DG ISPR said that the armed forces already have their “hands full” with the “huge responsibility of looking at security, internal and external threats.” Maj Gen Iftikhar further called for any such speculation to be “shut down.”
He stated that if anyone had evidence of such backdoor communication with leaders of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), that they come forward with it.
“I would again request please don't drag the institution into this dialogue,” repeated the DG. He also thanked China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) for its donation of Covid-19 vaccines to Pakistan, and noted that the “real heroes” of the country are the medical professionals dealing with the pandemic.
