Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed has expressed displeasure over the measures being taken by the federal government to contain the coronavirus outbreak in the country. He said that the government was just holding meetings, but no actual work was being done on the ground. He expressed these views while hearing a petition against the Islamabad High Court (IHC)'s decision to release prisoners amid the virus outbreak.
The CJ added that no hospital in Islamabad can cater to patients as all Out Patient Departments (OPDs) have been closed, saying that all hospitals and clinics must remain open.
The Attorney General told the court that the government was doing whatever it could to contain the deadly virus.
Further, the CJ was enraged when the apex court was asked by the Ministry of Health to close its dispensary. The CJ asked, "Why should it be closed? This is no way to fight a pandemic."
