Prime Minister Imran Khan has replaced Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtiar, whose brother was recently named as one of the beneficiaries of the sugar crisis, with PTI leader Syed Fakhar Imam as Federal Minister for National Food Security. The cabinet reshuffle took place on Monday.
Bakhtiar has been given the portfolio for Ministry of Economic Affairs, a ministry previously held by Hammad Azhar. Azhar has been made the Minister for Industries.
Further, the PM finally accepted MQM-P leader Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui's resignation as Minister for Information Technology which he had tendered in January. Aminul Haq of the MQM-P has been given the charge of ministry for telecom.
Babar Awan who had earlier resigned in 2018 after initiation of a NAB inquiry against him has been re-appointed as an adviser to the PM for parliamentary affairs.
Moreover, Jehangir Tareen who was also named as a beneficiary of the sugar crisis in an investigation report has reportedly been removed as 'chair of task force on agriculture'. This was announced by PTI leader Shahbaz Gill on Twitter.
