Locally-Made PPE To Be Exported To Earn Profit, Decides Govt

The federal cabinet has approved the export of locally produced personal protection equipment (PPE) and sanitizers, despite shortage of the protective gear for doctors in Pakistan.

Adviser to PM on Commerce Abdul Razak Dawood tweeted that approval for export of PPE (excluding three items) and sanitizers was given in the cabinet meeting. He is encouraged exporters to make the best of this opportunity, after assuring that there was an adequate supply of the exportable items for local requirements.

However, the ban on the export of Tyvek suits, N95 masks and surgical masks continues to be in place.

Earlier on March 24, the Ministry of Commerce had issued a notification banning the export of PPE until an assessment about their local demand and supply was done. Subsequently in May, it was reported that the Ministry of National Health Service Research & Coordination and the Ministry of Commerce had agreed that Pakistan had a sufficient supply of PPE to fulfill its local demands. Thereafter, the cabinet arrived at the decision to allow their export.
