The Foreign Office (FO) has issued a statement completely rejecting ‘baseless reports’ by Indian intelligence sources stating that terrorist training activities were going on in Narowal, the same district where the Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib was located.
Earlier, Indian media, citing intelligence sources, had alleged that militant training camps were located on the district housing the Pakistani end of the Kartarpur corridor.
A press release issued by the FO stated that Pakistan’s Kartarpur spirit was aimed at facilitating Nanak Naamlevas, especially Sikhs, to visit one of their most sacred places of worship.
The statement added, "The content of the media reports in question is part of a malicious propaganda campaign in India that cannot be condemned enough."
The FO press release further added that allegations against Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib were unfounded and were being used to misrepresent Pakistan’s goodwill gesture, hurt the religious sentiments of Sikhs, and undermine the corridor initiative.
“Such mischievous attempts will be rejected with the contempt that they deserve," the statement added.
The Kartapur corridor would be inaugurated on November 9. The Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib, located a few kilometres from the Indo-Pak border, is revered among the Sikhs, as it was the place where Baba Guru Nanak settled and preached during the last 18 years of his life. It is also Guru Nanak’s final resting place.
Kartarpur Corridor would be potentially used by 5000 Sikh pilgrims daily. On Friday, Prime Minister Imran Khan had waived off two requirements for Sikh pilgrims, in order to facilitate their visit to the holy place.
Moreover, around 76 immigration counters had been prepared to accommodate the Sikh pilgrims. The pilgrims will be transported aboard buses to the Gurdwara on the Pakistani side, where they would be provided with facilities styled on airports.
