Majority of the winning candidates in the recent elections of the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) are considered to be anti-government. Express Tribune reported that most of the members elected are from the Asma Jahangir Group, an independent Lawyers body.
17 elected members out of 23 are from the Asma Group. However, the official result of the PBC election is yet to be announced.
Observers believe that this is a huge set back for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Pakistan (PTI) government as most of the elected members are associated with opposition parties.
Elected members include Haroonur Rasheed (Islamabad), Muneer Kakar (Balochistan), Muhammad Tariq Afridi, Khushdil Khan, Muhammad Faheem Vali and Syed Amjad Shah (K-P), Farooq H Naek, Shahadat Awan, Shahab Sarki, Abid Shahid Zuberi, Riazat Ali Sahar and Muhammad Yousaf Laghari (Sindh) among others.
