Security forces in Balochistan have eliminated 22 more terrorists, bringing the total number of militants neutralised in the past three days to 177, officials confirmed on Monday.
The operations follow large-scale coordinated attacks on Saturday carried out by terrorists affiliated with the outlawed Balochistan Liberation Army, designated by authorities as Fitna al-Hindustan to underscore India’s alleged involvement. The assaults targeted civilians and security installations across at least 12 towns, including Quetta, Mastung, Nushki, Dalbandin, Kharan, Panjgur, Tump, Gwadar, and Pasni.
During the attacks, 31 civilians and 17 security personnel were killed, while security forces engaged in intense gunfights and cordon-and-search operations to eliminate the militants. Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti stated that the maximum number of terrorists involved in the attacks was 200–250, and the province’s overall militant network, including sympathisers and facilitators, is estimated at 4,000–5,000.
Bugti emphasised that the Balochistan insurgency is not political and can only be addressed militarily. He also highlighted the sensitivity of operations, noting that militants often blend with civilian populations, and security forces exercise restraint to avoid civilian casualties. Reports also suggest the involvement of Afghan nationals and a wide range of weaponry in the attacks.
Following the incidents, mobile internet services remain suspended across Quetta and other cities to aid security operations. Additional Chief Secretary Hamza Shafqaat indicated that services may be restored soon.
Defence Minister Khawaja Asif confirmed that peace has largely been restored in the province and security forces continue sanitisation operations. Authorities stated that intelligence agencies, police, and the military are tightening the noose around remaining militants and facilitators.
The Balochistan government has reaffirmed its resolve to eliminate terrorism and prevent external elements from destabilising the province.
