According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the inflation rate increased to 14.6 per cent in January. This was a 2pc increase since the previous month.
This rate was the highest level in 12 years. Food prices soared during January especially that of wheat, flour, pulses, sugar, and edible oil.
According to PBS, the prices of LPG cylinders that are used for cooking increase since 2013 also increased in rural areas. The worrying trend is the increase in food inflation in rural areas.
The January trends are way above the projections done by IMF as well as the federal government.
