Prime Minister Imran Khan has waived off two requirements for the Sikh pilgrims intending to travel to Pakistan for Baba Guru Nanak’s 550th birth anniversary.
In a tweet posted from his official account, the prime minister said that Sikhs coming for pilgrimage to Kartarpur from India would not need a passport, but just a valid identification.

He added that the pilgrims would no longer need to register 10 days in advance.
Moreover, the premier also waived off the fee on the day of Kartarpur’s inauguration and the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak.
The Kartarpur Corridor is set to be inaugurated on November 9, while Guru Nanak’s 550th birthday anniversary is on November 12. Thousands of Sikhs would be making the pilgrimage to participate in the festivities part of the 550th birth anniversary of their religious founder.
Kartarpur Corridor would be potentially used by 5000 Sikh pilgrims daily. The corridor connects Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur, one of Sikhism’s holiest sites, to Dera Baba Nanak Sahib, another gurdwara in Indian Punjab.
The inauguration comes at a time when both countries are experiencing heightened tensions since India’s revocation of Articles 35A and 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. Moreover, earlier this year, tensions had reached boiling point when the Pakistan Air Force shot down two Indian fighter jets which had violated Pakistani territory by crossing the Line of Control.
