Peshawar Doctor Beaten By Public Over Delay In Coronavirus Testing
PESHAWAR: An ENT specialist doctor responsible for taking the swab samples for conducting coronavirus tests at the Hayatabad Medical Complex (HMC) was attacked and beaten by the public because the procedure was taking more than the expected time, a doctor from the same hospital said.

He also said that the hospital had seen multiple cases of violence since the outbreak of Covid-19. Last week an MPA of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa allegedly broke the windows of an isolation ward and there was no action taken against him, he mentioned.

MPA Sahibzada Sanaullah has been accused of having an involvement in damaging the hospital and vandalising it.

On May 28, the administration of Peshawar’s HMC had started referring the coronavirus patients to other health facilities as the hospital doesn’t have the capability to facilitate more virus-infected patients.

Toueed Zulfiqar, the hospital’s spokesperson said that they had started referring patients to other hospitals. “We are not accepting new or referred patients at the moment as we are facing a shortage of beds and other facilities,” he told the newspaper, adding that the hospital is currently focusing on catering to the needs of patients already under treatment.

According to Zulfiqar, the hospital has 90 beds in the isolation facility for Covid-19 patients, out of which 85 are already occupied. “For the past two weeks our patient inflow has increased almost three to four times,” Zulfiqar added. The spokesperson attributed the increase to patients specifically seeking out the hospital after it started plasma therapy.
