Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar sustained a hairline fracture in his shoulder after slipping and falling while receiving the Foreign Minister of Egypt, Dr Badr Abdelatty, in Islamabad on Sunday.
A video circulating on social media shows Senator Dar losing his balance and falling to the ground while proceeding towards a stage for a photoshoot with his Egyptian counterpart.
Dar’s son, Ali Dar, who also serves as Advisor to the Punjab Chief Minister, confirmed the injury in a post on X, stating that his father continued to fulfil his official duties despite the accident.
“Ishaq Dar sahib, despite sustaining an injury during the reception of the Egyptian Foreign Minister today, completed all highly important meetings throughout the day on painkillers, Alhamdulillah, in the best possible manner,” he wrote.
Ali Dar added that a medical examination was carried out around 9 pm at the family’s insistence, following the conclusion of official engagements. “His X-rays are overall fine. There is a hairline fracture in the shoulder. In the coming few days, his pain will be managed through medications and other precautionary measures. Thank you all for your messages, prayers, and kind wishes,” he said.
The incident occurred during a four-country consultative meeting focused on promoting dialogue and diplomacy as a pathway to ending hostilities in the Gulf region. The meeting brought together the foreign ministers of Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and Egypt.
At the meeting, the ministers discussed the ongoing conflict’s devastating impact on lives and livelihoods and stressed that the war “is not in favour of anyone and would only lead to death and destruction,” according to DPM Dar.
They reaffirmed the need for an immediate end to hostilities, emphasised unity among Muslim countries, and backed efforts to create conditions for structured negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
“The Foreign Ministers held a very detailed and in-depth discussion on the current regional situation. We also discussed possible ways to bring an early and permanent end to the war in the region,” Ishaq Dar said at the conclusion of the second consultative quadrilateral meeting.
The ministers also explored ways to strengthen mutual cooperation among the four countries, deciding to constitute a committee of senior officials from their respective Ministries of Foreign Affairs to work out modalities through consensus.
DPM Ishaq Dar highlighted the importance of Muslim unity, stating, “We agreed that this war is not in favour of anyone and would only lead to death and destruction. The unity of the Muslim Ummah in these challenging times is of utmost importance.”
During the meeting, Pakistani officials briefed the visiting ministers on the prospects of potential US-Iran talks in Islamabad, with the visiting ministers expressing full support for the initiative.
