Former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) senior leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has said that the federal government was trying to give a legal cover to enforced disappearances under the garb of Financial Action Task Force (FATF) law.
The former premier, during an interview to journalist Asma Shirazi on her show, said that one of the three bills that the government drafted regarding FATF legislation, was very poorly written and didn’t make any sense.

“When I asked that who has written the bill, no one responded. There was complete silence. Three would be neither democracy nor justice in Pakistan if that bill is approved.”
Talking about the bill, Khaqan Abbasi said that it allowed the detention of ‘anybody’ for 180 days without the warrant and due legal process. The committees which would decide the person to be detained, include members of security agencies of Pakistan.
The PML-N leader said that after severer criticism from the opposition parties, the government representatives dropped the bill and said that it wasn’t the part of FATF law.
