The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Administration on Thursday sealed two residential sectors after 33 coronavirus cases were confirmed among the residents there.
According to a notification issued from Islamabad DC Office, the district magistrate ordered Sectors I-10/1 and I-10/4 to be sealed and requested the deployment of Islamabad police and rangers to cordon off the said sectors to ensure public safety.
Deputy Commissioner Hamza Shafqat said that 100 persons were tested for Coronavirus in the two sectors, and 33 out of them were tested positive, adding that 37 have tested negative for the virus.
He said law enforcers have been deployed in the areas and a plan has been finalized to provide food and other commodities of basic necessity to the residents during the lockdown.
He added that the areas will remain sealed for seven days and after that, the ICT administration will decide the future course of action. As many as 40 other persons in these two sectors are suspected to have coronavirus, he said.
On April 28, with 36 new cases reported, Islamabad saw the single biggest spike in its COVID-19 tally since the beginning of the outbreak. Another 16 cases were reported on April 29, bringing Islamabad’s total number of cases to 313.
According to Islamabad DC, social distancing is not being practiced at shops that have opened with the capital administration’s permission. The surveillance teams say large crowds were seen in markets and shopping centres. He said that the situation is alarming.
Currently, Bhara Kahu and Sector I-10 are Islamabad’s COVID-19 hotspots.
