In pictures: A tribute to yesteryear Bollywood Superstar Rajesh Khanna
Rajesh Khanna, a talented and diverse actor, often termed as "original superstar' of Indian cinema is being remembered by the world on his birthday today. Khanna was born on December 29, 1942 in Amritsar, India.



Rajesh Khanna was known as the 'first superstar' for being the only actor to star in 15 consecutive solo hit films from 1969 to 1971. His life was always in the limelight, from his affairs to his family but his marriage



Khanna was blessed to have married the love of his life Dimple Kapadia, as the couple tied their knot in 1973.



The lovely couple was blessed with two daughters, Twinkle Khanna and Rinkie Khanna.



Although Khanna loved Dimple unconditionally, the couple had their share of marital issues leading to their separation. However, the lovely couple never proceeded with their divorce.



Superstar Rajesh gave many hits, including Bawarchi, Agar Tum Na Hotay, Aakhri Khat, Aradhana and many more ruling the silver screen in the 60s and 70s.

Aradhana is a 1969 Indian romantic drama film directed by Shakti Samanta, starring Sharmila Tagore and Rajesh Khanna. It won the Filmfare Award for Best Film at the 17th Filmfare Awards.



 

1972 film Bawarchi starring Rajesh as a cook did wonders with his acting along with Jaya Badhuri.



Film Mehbooba hit the big screen in 1976 starring Rajesh and Hema Malini.



Another hit movie of the Indian superstar with renowned diva Rekha is still loved by Khanna fans.



The renowned actor turned into a politician, becoming a member of the parliament for New Delhi constituency in 1991- 1996. He had since then been a Congress activist.

Khanna's daughter also charmed the film industry and married famous actor Akshay Kumar later on.

 



 



Rajesh Khanna had a life full of colors as well challenges, but his perspective towards life was always positive. He is believed to have said once that' a king lives and dies but as a king'.

Thousands gathered to bid farewell to an iconic star of the Indian film industry.



The renowned actor cum producer passed away on July 18, 2012, due to cardiac arrest. He will forever be remembered and his work cherished by his fans. Rest in peace 'Original Superstar'.
