The Sindh High Court (SHC) has directed that a judicial inquiry should be conducted to investigate the death of a Hindu student, Nimrita Kumari.
Last week, Nimrita Kumari, a resident of Ghotki, was found dead in the hostel room of Chandka Medical College. She was a student of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University's (SMBBMU) Bibi Aseefa Dental College. She was found with marks on her neck that indicated suicide.
Following Nimrita's death, students of her institute had protested and called for an inquiry into what seemed to be a murder.

According to reports in media, the Sindh High Court had written a letter to a Larkana session judge over Nimrita’s death. The session judge had asked the court’s permission for a judicial inquiry into the incident.
Meanwhile, Nimrita’s brother and father have still not registered a case and are in consultation with officials over the registration of a first information report (FIR).
Police had assured that the investigation would be thorough and would not be influenced by any pressure.
Currently, as according to the investigating officer, authorities had carried out interviews of senior professors at her university, both her roommates and 40 other people. Meanwhile, Nimrita’s classmates, Mehran Abroo and Shan Ali are under arrest.
Moreover, police had claimed this Sunday that Mehran Abro, who has been reported to be one of the accused, and has been arrested, had confessed that the two were romantically involved. The two had been friends for four years and Nimrita had proposed to Mehran, a proposal that the latter had rejected.

Following his sister’s death, Nimrita’s brother had claimed that his sister did not commit suicide. In his talks with media following the incident, he had alleged that his sister was murdered as the marks on her neck indicated the use of a wire. He had also stated that there were marks on Nimrita’s hands as if someone had gripped her forcefully.
Police had assured that the investigation would be thorough and would not be influenced by any pressure.

After Nimrita’s death, the principal of Larkana’s Chandka Medical College, Professor Dr Das Dholia, had informed media that the initial post-mortem report had indicated the cause of death to be suicide and that no torture marks were found on Nimrita’s body.
