PESHAWAR: A couple was killed by family members after they ran away from home in Buner district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sunday.
The boy, Salim, was in love with a girl at a village. His family had sent proposal several times but the girl's family wasn’t interested. After repeated failures, the couple planned to escape from Dara village located near Shalbandai Baba shrine.
Soon after their escape, the girl's family members started searching for them and they were brought back to village.
According to police, the bodies have been recovered from a room where they were hanged. A case has been registered against the accused, however, the family members managed to flee after committing the heinous crime.
On the other hand, timely intervention by Charsadda and Peshawar police helped preventing the murder of a woman in the name of honour and arrested the jirga members.
The jirga had ordered to murder the woman after the killing of a man over the suspicion of having relations with her.
However, the officials at Saro Police Station in Charsadda, acting on a timely information, in collaboration with the Peshawar police rescued the mother of four, when she was being taken away in a pickup.
The police said Murem Zeb was killed four years ago by the woman’s relatives for alleged illicit relationship with her. His family had been demanding the killing of the woman.
Finally, the jirga approved her murder and she was being taken away to a desolate place in a pickup when the police raided and rescued her.
The police arrested Noor Islam, Hazartullah, Fazle Khaliq and Shah Hussain on the charges of attempt to murder.
Meanwhile, jirga members – Abdul Wahab, Noor Wali, Sabz Ali, Muhibullah and Akbar Hussain – were also booked and arrested by the Regi Police Station in Peshawar under PPC sections 34, 109 and 364. The rescued woman was handed over to the Women’s Police Station for her safe custody.
Peshawar SSP Operations Zahoor Babar Afridi, SP Rural Shaukat Khan, DSP Rahim Hussain and SHO Arshad Khan played a leading role in foiling the honour killing attempt.
