Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday gave approval to the new law for chemical castration of rapists.
During the cabinet meeting, the law ministry also presented the draft of anti-rape ordinances. The draft recommends increasing women’s role in policing, fast-tracking rape cases and witness protection.
“We need to ensure a safe environment for our citizens.” PM Imran Khan said.
He added that the legislation will be strictly enforced. “Rape survivors will be able to register complaints without fear,” the PM added.
It is also reported that public hanging of rapists was also proposed by some ministers, but the PM said that castration will only be a ‘start’.
