KP Bar Council To Go On Complete Strike, As PHC Chief Justice Waqar Seth Not Elevated To Supreme Court

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council has announced a strike for the 17th of March in protest over the fact that Peshawar High Court (PHC) Chief Justice Waqar Seth was not nominated for elevation to the Supreme Court. The notice issued by the KP Bar Council on this issue takes the view that rather than going by the usual seniority principle, the country's highest judicial authorities had chosen to elevate a judge from the Lahore High Court (LHC), who was junior to PHC Chief Justice Waqar Seth.

The KP Bar Council has stated that it decided via a majority to severely condemn the recent decisions on elevation of judges to the Supreme Court. The Bar Council has further opined that this is a matter of cementing the unity of the federation through just appointments that rely on the seniority principle.
