Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman needs to be tried for high treason under Article 6 of the Constitution over his statement that he was assured of the PM's resignation at the time of his anti-government Azadi March in November.
The PM expressed these views during an informal conversation with journalists hosted by him in Islamabad on Friday afternoon.
Earlier, the JUI-F chief had said that he had called off the Azadi March after being assured by the powers-that-be that the government would soon be sent packing.
"Maulana Fazlur Rehman should be tried under Article 6 of the Constitution. There should be an inquiry into the remarks he made, and he should be asked who gave him that understanding,' PM Imran stated, according to media reports.
