Politician and journalist Jugnu Mohsin has on Tuesday said that if there is one man in the country who can turn the economy around, then it is Nawaz Sharif. She said that Nawaz Sharif is an experienced politician and the state also seems to have learned its lesson, she said.
Speaking on Naya Daur TV’s flagship show Khabar Say Aagay (Beyond the Headlines), Jugnu Mohsin said that civilian supremacy has been the cornerstone of Nawaz Sharif’s politics; he’s also been emphasising on regional cooperation and trade, which eventually became the bone of contention between him and the establishment.
Jugnu also added that Nawaz Sharif could not be blamed for what happened during the past 5 years and the fact that his strongest political opponent Imran Khan is currently in jail.
Senior reporter from London Murtaza Ali Shah revealed on the show that Nawaz Sharif planned to go to Dubai on October 21 and then board the plane to Lahore from there.
Journalist Sajjad Anwar was skeptical of how impactful Nawaz Sharif’s return could prove to be for his Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz though. “The people have bought into Imran Khan’s narrative; they believe he is the real anti-establishment force in the country and, for whatever reason, they have all but forgotten the malgovernance of Imran Khan’s time in power from 2018 to 2022,” he said.
The senior journalist also disagreed with Jugnu Mohsin on the argument that Nawaz Sharif could not be blamed for Shehbaz Sharif government’s policies. “Nawaz Sharif was calling the shots from London. He sent Ishaq Dar here to take over the finance ministry,” he added.
Sajjad however believed that Nawaz Sharif could get a good crowd upon his arrival in Pakistan if the PMLN remained united. But that, he said, would only mean a good start to the election campaign because at the end of the day, it was the establishment that held real power in the country and Nawaz Sharif’s role in Pakistan’s future political scenario will also be decided by them.
