Larkana
Student of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Medical University (SMBBMU), Nimrita Kumari, was raped before being murdered, her final autopsy report has revealed.
The report, issued by Chandka Medical College Hospital (CMCH), also revealed that the death was caused by suffocation as asphyxial signs caused by a ligature on the neck were observed during the autopsy.
The CMCH Women Medico-Legal Officer Dr Amrita told media, “The ligature marks also tally with the information. Such signs are produced either in strangulation or hanging and are to be ascertained through circumstantial evidence as corroborative at the crime scene by state investigation authorities.”
Moreover, the autopsy report also stated that a DNA test had confirmed the presence of male DNA, indicated from semen residue on Kumari’s clothes. A vaginal swab had also tested positive for a forced sexual act.
Nimrita Kumari, hailing from Ghotki, was a student of Bibi Aseefa Dental College of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University in Larkana. On September 16, Nimrita had been found dead in her hostel room with marks on her neck that indicated suicide.
Nimrita’s brother had claimed that his sister did not commit suicide, stating to media after her death that the first girl who came across the body found her with a duputta around her neck. He added that the marks on her neck indicated the use of a wire, and that there were marks on Nimrita’s hands as if someone had gripped her forcefully.
The Sindh High Court had ordered a judicial inquiry into the incident, which is still underway.
