ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League -Quaid (PML-Q) has put a proposal before Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman that if Punjab Chief Ministership is promised to PML-Q, the party would be willing to support an in house change of the government, an insider of JUI-F who is part of the negotiations told this scribe on the condition of anonymity.
Naya Daur is trying to verify this claim through other sources but all those contacted are reticent to discuss the nature of such negotiations.
PML-Q chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has had several meetings with Fazl during the last two days in order to find a solution to the situation created in the wake of the Azadi March in Islamabad.
The source said that Shujaat Hussain had come to negotiate with a message from the establishment that if Maulana wraps up his march, an in-house change might be an option. However, the source claims that Maulana has made it clear that he does not trust these assurances and will not move unless the proposal is materialised.
“Maulana told Ch. Shujaat Hussain that he could convince other opposition parties on giving PML-Q power share in return for supporting for Shehbaz Sharif for the position of Prime Minister. Once all opposition parties agree on this proposal, only then Maulana will make the announcement from the container and end the March”, the source added.
When asked about the negotiations between Rahbar Committee and the government, the source laughed and said, "It’s just a ‘time-pass’. Real negotiations are happening between Maulana and Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain".
It is still unclear as to how the JUI-F could benefit from the situation. The source, however, claims that PTI would receive a blow if such a plan works out. "Secondly, the new set-up will not continue for long and ultimately lead to fresh elections", he said.
Meanwhile, former President, and Co-Chairman of Pakistan People’s Party, Asif Ali Zardari reportedly sent a message to Maulana that he should not wrap up the Azadi March before achieving his objective, i.e. removal of PM Imran Khan.
He also assured the JUI chief of complete support for the Azadi March.
