ARY Digital has released the promo of its upcoming TV serial ‘Jhooti’. As soon as the promo was out, people started calling it out for trivializing the menace of domestic violence in Pakistan.
In the promo, Iqra Aziz is initially portrayed as a victim of domestic violence, with a face full of bruises. But then she suddenly starts laughing and says that she had been faking it all only to make her husband look bad.
People accused ARY Digital of mocking the domestic abuse victims in Pakistan.
The show also stars Iqra’s husband Yasir Hussain and Ahmed Ali Butt in lead roles. Jhooti is directed by Syed Ramish Rizvi and produced by Abdullah Seja. Its release date has not been announced yet.
This is not the first time ARY is under backlash for its portrayal of women. The play 'Meray Paas Tum Ho' has also been criticised for its misogynistic content whereby the female lead has been shown as an evil person for choosing to leave her husband. The dialogues in the play reek of sexism and double standards when it comes to men and women ending relationships and choosing new partners.
