Four employees of Gomal University in Khyber Pakhtunkwa (KP)’s Dera Ismail Khan were fired on Tuesday, after charges of sexual harassment were proved against them in an inquiry.
DAWN reported that the fired employees included Assistant Professor Imran Qureshi, Professor Dr Bakhtair Khan, game supervisor Hikmat Ullah and lab attendant Hafeez Ullah. The deputy registrar’s office issued orders for dismissal on Tuesday, sacking the employees from service on grounds of ‘proven grave misconduct of sexual harassment’.
The newspaper quoted Vice-chancellor Gomal University Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar as saying that “the dismissed faculty and staff members had been harassing female students. A number of them had filed written applications against the employees after which the varsity conducted an inquiry into the matter.”
This is not the first time that the news of sexual harassment have been emerged from Gomal University. Last month, the varsity's head of Islamic & Arabic department and humanities Professor Hafiz Salahuddin was forced to resign for sexually harassing a number of female students and faculty members.
