The fate of Sarmad Khoosat's film 'Zindagi Tamasha' is still unclear as those responsible to review it for clearance are blaming one another for the delay. According to a report in Express Tribune, a Central Board for Film Certification (CBFC) official said, “It is beyond understanding why the review meeting was not held and it seems that this matter will not be settled in the coming days. More than two weeks have passed and nothing has been done in this regard. Two weeks was enough time to conduct the relevant proceedings. Even the provincial censor boards have not arranged their review meetings."
The report also quotes an official from the Punjab Censor Board as saying that it is waiting for the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) and CBFC to reach their conclusion. “We are awaiting the decision by the CII and CBFC. We will follow them over this matter as the issue is serious,” said an official of Punjab film and Censor Board.
In January, the federal government had postponed the release of the film 'Zindagi Tamasha' after Tehreek-e-Labbaik (TLP) threatened a countrywide protest. The CII was invited by the CBFC to attend the review meeting that was to be held on February 3.
The CII maintains that it has submitted all the details of its four member bench for the review and is awaiting the CBFC’s response.
