The federal cabinet has approved a new ‘political map’ of the country that shows India-occupied Kashmir as a part of the Pakistani territory.
The move came ahead of Aug 5, the day Kashmir lost its autonomous status after India revoked Article 370 last year.
This is the most historic day in Pakistan’s history,” Prime Minister Imran Khan said in a press conference after the meeting.
PM Imran said for the first time in history, Pakistan has launched a political map which shows the entire Kashmir region, including Jammu, as part of the country’s territory.
According to the premier, the map was approved by all political parties and it would be made part of national curriculum as well.
“This map also opposes the Indian government’s illegal act of August 5 last year,” he said, going on to call it a ‘historic day’.
The PM called for implementation of the UN resolutions on Kashmir, saying the solution to this conflict lies only in these resolutions.
“We believe Kashmir dispute can only be resolved through political means not military,” the premier said, alluding to plebiscite.
