Federal Minister for Science and Technology Chaudhry Fawad Hussain has condemned bigoted sentiments being spewed amid the coronavirus outbreak in the country. He said that the deadly coronavirus has no sect or nationality, and its spreads and affects people indiscriminately. He denounced the elements using the situation to promote sectarianism in the country.
The federal minister, while speaking on journalist’s Asma Shirazi’s show on Aaj News, said that the fatal coronavirus has affected a number of foreign countries, but none has associated it with any particular religious group.

“We have been terming coronavirus as Sunni corona, Shia corona, Wahabi corona, and Tableeghi corona since its outbreak in Pakistan. The spread of coronavirus takes place just because of the social and religious gathering, irrespective of its nature and purpose,” Chaudhry Fawad said.
He said that many religious extremists are spewing religious bigotry and making ‘stupid’ statements regarding the virus outbreak. “This fanaticism is the result of excessive dose of religion that has been given to society over the years,” the minister added.
Fawad Hussain further said that the political parties should have developed a national consensus in this regard, but unfortunately it failed to do so.
