Asad Umar was the finance minister in Prime Minister Imran Khan’s cabinet and had resigned from his post in April 2019 following criticism over the government’s economic policies.
Umar was replaced by Hafeez Shaikh, who became the prime minister’s adviser on economic affairs.
Umar has been serving as the chairman of National Assembly’s standing committee on finance, revenue and economic affairs.
