On Thursday, a convoy of FC was patrolling the streets when unknown assailants attacked the personnel with hand grenade in Turbat, southern Baluchistan. Following the incident, Hayat Baluch was working along with his father in his date garden when an FC official allegedly shot him suspecting that he had thrown the grenade.
Father of Hayat Baluch, Mirza Baluch who is said to be an eyewitness of the incident, said that the security forces stormed the garden and began to beat up Hayat. He added that they tied Hayat’s hands and later shot him.
Due to closure of the university, Hayat was in his hometown helping his father in maintaining the date garden.
FC South has ordered an internal inquiry in this regard and handed over the accused FC soldier named Shahede Ullah s/o Sardar to the SHO Turbat Police Station. Police registered an FIR on the complaint of the deceased’s brother Murad Ullah, under section 302. The court sent him on a seven-days remand.
Political parties, students’ organizations and civil society have condemned the killing of student and demanded justice for the aggrieved family.
Baluch student Organization (BSO) Spokesperson in press release expressed concern over the killing of Hayat. In a statement, he said that the incident has spread anger among the students.
Awami National Party (ANP) in statement from provincial office Baluchistan Bacha khan markaz said, the details surrounding the Turbat incident are worrying. The ANP expressed solidarity with the student’s family and urged the government to serve them justice.
Department of psychology Karachi university faculty and students are also mourning the untimely death of Hayat Baluch. In statement they said “Hayat was a symbol of respect, affection and hard work, a dreamful passionate young men with eyes on the sky and deeply rooted to its soil.”
