Amnesty International Urges Pakistan Govt To Grant Permission To Aurat March In Faisalabad
Amnesty International South Asia has urged the government of Pakistan to let Aurat March organisers hold their planned protest in the city. Young activists had planned a protest in Faisalabad on Sunday against the recent cases of violence against women.
The Aurat March organisers had to cancel the event reportedly after the administration threatened to arrest them.

Assistant Commissioner Faisalabad Ayub Bukhari is said to have made phone calls to activists including female students who had planned the protest.

In its message, the Amnesty International said, "Amnesty International notes with serious concern the government’s decision to bar the #AuratMarch protest in Faisalabad yesterday. The right to peaceful assembly is protected by all major human rights conventions and the Constitution of Pakistan."

The organisation called on the authorities in Pakistan to grant permission to organisers of the protest and provide them security.
