Bill Making Marriage Mandatory For People Over 18 Submitted In Sindh Assembly
Mattahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) lawmaker on Wednesday presented a private bill in the Sindh Assembly making it mandatory for parents to marry off their children after they turn 18 and imposing a Rs500 fine over violation of the proposed law.

Titled 'Sindh Compulsory Marriage Act, 2021', the bill states that in case parents fail to marry off their children at 18, they will have submit an affidavit in the office of the deputy commissioner, explaining the reason.

The draft bill was filed in the assembly secretariat by Syed Abdul Rasheed of the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal.

Social media reacted to the development and strongly condemned the bill, terming it an effort to normalise child marriages and forced conversions. Much to the relief of Twitterati, Bakhtawar-Bhutto Zardari then responded to the backlash and said that Pakistan People's Party (PPP) will not let the bill succeed.
