Nowshera Police Arrest Christian Man Accused Of Desecrating Holy Quran

Nowshera Police have arrested a Christian man in the city after the locals in Risalpure accused him of allegedly desecrating the Holy Quran.

The man identified as David has been booked under the blasphemy laws after the police investigated the incident on the complaints of the locals.

The Tribal News Network said that a few days back a video on social media showed locals in Risalpure collected pages of the Quran from a drain. The police subsequently arrested David for alleged blasphemy.

Blasphemy accusations are highly inflammatory in deeply conservative Pakistan and have in the past sparked mob lynchings, vigilante murders, and mass protests.

Up to 80 people are known to be imprisoned in Pakistan on blasphemy charges — half of whom face life in prison or the death penalty — according to the US Commission on International Religious Freedom.
