The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has directed the government of Pakistan to once again offer India to appoint a legal counsel for RAW spy Kulbhushan Jadhav.
IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah remarked that the matter was now in the high court, "so why not give another chance to India". He was of the view that this time the Indian government or Jadhav may change their decision about the review petition.
A two-member bench of the IHC was hearing the petition seeking appointment of counsel for Jadhav. Pakistan's Foreign Office maintains that Jadhav was a serving commander of Indian Navy associated with Indian spy agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW).
Justice Minallah further said that the Indian spy and his country must once again be offered to appoint a lawyer for him. The attorney general replied that India was 'running away' from the International Court of Judges (ICJ) verdict in Kulbhushan Jadhav case. The AGP added that Pakistan has given India an opportunity to file a review petition by issuing an ordinance, adding that Pakistan's Foreign Office will contact India once again.
The court then adjourned the hearing till September 3.
On July 22, the government had moved the IHC seeking appointment of a legal counsel for Kulbhushan Jadhav.
