Resolution in KP Assembly Seeks Reopening of Border With Afghanistan

A resolution was tabled in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly seeking 'reopening of border crossings with Afghanistan for trade'.

”Our markets have been totally destroyed. It’s time to reopen the border so that our business could b restored," read a tweet by a user who affiliates himself with the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement.



In addition to the demand of the border reopening, the social media users are also demanding the repatriation of the IDPs [Internally Displaced Persons]. IDPs are a group of Pashtun people who had to leave their areas during the military operations in the tribal districts.

KP MPA Mir Kalam Wazir said that the government was reluctant to send IDPs home despite repeated demands.

Another rights activist Alamzaib Mahsud said that the sufferings of the IDPs were unbearable, tas he tweeted in the support of the repatriation.

Another user questioned the motive of keeping the IDPs in camps.

Idris Bacha questioned the lack of effective arrangments for the return of the IDPs.
