PPP Leaders No Longer Trust PML-N For Opposition Alliance: Report

The Punjab leadership of the Pakistan People’s Party has expressed doubts over the top leadership’s decision to enter an alliance with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), saying the PPP should stick to independent politics in the province.

A delegation of PPP leaders expressed apprehensions after PML-N chief Shehbaz Sharif excused himself from attending the all-party moot after Eid on account of frail health. Bilawal said the huddle would be of no use if Shehbaz was absent.

He later called a meeting of the Punjab chapter of the party to discuss the situation. During the meeting, the PPP leaders said the PML-N ‘always tricks its allies and is a hurdle in the alliance of the opposition’.

According to Dawn, Aitzaz Ahsan recalled that the N-League had ‘deceived’ Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto despite her sincerity, and never let any chance go for defaming the PPP leadership.

The PPP MPAs also complained of the treatment meted out to them by PML-N in Punjab Assembly, saying the biggest opposition party in the House ignores them while making any decision in the provincial assembly.

Bilawal, however, urged the participants to take a pragmatic view of the situation and they should try to take along all opposition stakeholders in the drive against the ‘selected’ government.
