In an encouraging development, the gap between the total number of coronavirus-infected patients and those fully recovered has narrowed further, as the toll of active cases has dropped to 43 per cent of the total cases reported in the country.
DAWN reported that out of 231,817 cases reported to date, only 101,187 (43.8 per cent) are active virus patients, and the remaining 129,830 patients have fully recovered and discharged from the hospitals.
Spokesperson for the Ministry of National Health Services (NHS) Sajid Shah told the newspaper that the federal and provincial governments did make efforts in this regard, but the ‘smart’ lockdown policy, proposed by Prime Minister Imran Khan played a major role in narrowing the gap.
“It is due to the smart lockdowns in different parts of the country that the number of new cases decreased whereas the pace of recoveries remained the same. It is appreciable that the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) recommendations are being followed across the country due to which all the projected figures of positive cases proved wrong,” Shah added.
According NCOC on Covid-19, as many as 57pc of the total patients have recovered and only 43 per cent cases are active. The NCOC data further showed that only 467 of the total 1,525 ventilators dedicated for the Covid-19 patients across the country were occupied on Sunday.
Earlier, it was feared that there would be around 300,000 cases across the country by the end of June but the number of cases only crossed the 200,000 mark on the last day of June.
The fatal virus has claimed 4762 lives in the country, while 131,649 patients have recovered successfully and have discharged from the hospitals.
The national tally of coronavirus confirmed cases has risen to 231,818 with the provincial governments of Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan confirming 81,963, 94,528, 28,116, 10,814 cases respectively. Meanwhile, 1,561 cases in Gilgit-Baltistan, 13,494 in Islamabad, and 1,342 in Kashmir have reported to date.
